Need A Recruiter Who Understands Rehabiliation Providers?

The pain and suffering of our loved ones is unbearable for us, and that is the reason why we do our best and provide them with absolute care to make them happy and healthy again. However, if your loved one is suffering from pain caused by a significant fracture or recovering from a brain injury/stroke or just struggling with Parkinson’s disease, then you need to provide them professional help to truly help them. Thus, your best option is to seek help from a physical therapy rehabilitation facility and the special medical care which only these facilities are capable of providing.

Even though everyone is familiar with rehabilitation facilities, still most people are unaware of the fact that there are many different types of them; each catering to different types of medical care requirements. Basically based on the problem that your loved one is suffering from, you have the option to choose from 3 different types of rehabilitation facilities. What these types are and how they operate have been discussed next for your better understanding and appropriate decision-making:

Nursing Home or Skilled Nursing

A patient is physically not ready to go home and continue with his/her daily life immediately after any type of surgical operation like joint replacement or coronary artery bypass surgery. For such patients, nursing home or skilled nursing rehabilitation facility will be the right choice. The goal of this type of rehabilitation facility is to provide professional care from licensed nurses to their patients. They effectively help the patient to become more mobile before going back home by making them strong again. Besides, they are also important for those patients who do not have anyone to cater to them after a stay in the hospital for such issues. Mainly, Nursing homes are best for patients who suffer from chronic health problems like heart/lung problems or diabetes.

Beside providing with such type of needed care for 24 hours a day, this type of facility allows the patient to get help from other healthcare providers as well. In fact, they even help patients with hygiene and meals in such a facility.

Even though a stay at a nursing home can be around 26 days on an average, they can continue to provide the needed medical help to the patients once they go back home as well. With Private-duty care, the patient can enjoy the benefits of social interaction, hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation, and such other services. On the other hand, with a Home Health Nurse service, the patient can benefit from an additional therapy (timely medication and injection, patient education, nutrition therapy and attending to unhealed scars/wounds) which they are capable of providing at home.

LTACs (Long-term Acute Care Facilities)

There are many instances where a patient requires professional special medical care after being discharged from the hospital. If a patient was affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, and other such conditions, then they might suffer from ventilator weaning even after leaving home. Similarly, a patient suffering from any kind of complex medical condition that can affect various organs may also require such special medical care after being discharged. For such scenarios, the Long-term Acute Care Facilities (one of the most popular types of rehabilitation facilities) are required. This type of facility provides much more intense care than nursing homes. Even the stay at such facility is usually longer than nursing homes. On average, a patient may require to stay for 20-30 days in such a facility. The goal of such a facility is to provide the needed care and attention to build up the strength of the patients. The services that this type of facility provides are provided by occupational therapists, physical therapists, language/speech therapists along with licensed doctors and nurses.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Treatment

If a patient is suffering from Parkinson’s disease or had to be in the hospital after suffering from a stroke, traumatic brain injury, hip fracture, and such other issues, then they are in need of intensive medical therapy in order to return back home. For this type of patient, Inpatient Rehabilitation treatment is highly recommended. The care or medical aid provided by such facilities is more intense than the other two types discussed here. This is because; this type of facility offers the same care as a nursing home and LTAC along with some extra features. Besides the helping hand of speech/language, occupational and physical therapists, the patients will be working with other healthcare providers including licensed doctors and nurses. Such a facility even provides respiratory care and nursing 24 hours per day as well.

As this type of facility provides such specialized treatment, the average length of stay for a patient can be anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks only. In most popular inpatient rehabilitation facilities, the healthcare providers work with the patients for 3 hours (maximum) per day for around 5-6 days each week. However, it is important to mention that the patients need to regain their stamina and strength first before enjoying the advantages provided by such intensive therapy.

Reasons to Choose Such Facilities

With the help of these 3 different types of rehabilitation facilities, the patient is getting advance and expert help, which his/her untrained family member will fail to provide. From improving mobility, balance, strength to increasing the patient’s independence to addressing impaired speech, swallowing and cognition; there is a lot that each of these facilities has to offer.

How to Select the Right One For You

In most cases, the therapist at your hospital will assess the patient’s level of function and help them to understand and determine which rehabilitation facility will be able to provide the needed medical help. Besides, you can even conduct your very own advanced searching and researching to truly understand which type of these facilities can effectively provide the specific medical help you or your loved ones need. It will be best to conduct this research process while the patient is still at the hospital, healing. As, this will provide ample time to conduct the advance search process properly, and also the patient can immediately check in the facility as soon as they are discharged from the hospital. You can talk to experts or visit the chosen facilities on your own to get a clearer picture. Here it should be mentioned that treatments from these facilities are costly. However, with medical insurance and others, you can cut the cost. So, when looking for the right type of rehabilitation facility, do not forget to take this into consideration.
